Most people don't realize this but the Romans were the first ones to use DEI for critical projects such as aqueducts. That's right. They disregarded competence, merit, qualifications in order to hire the 16th most qualified person in the province after accounting for race, gender and imaginary gender.
It seems to have worked out better for them than for us.
