They Really Seem To Think Highly Of Us

African American History Museum's 'Whiteness' exhibit raising eyebrows (nypost.com)

Byron York on X: "The National Museum of African American History & Culture wants to make you aware of certain signs of whiteness: Individualism, hard work, objectivity, the nuclear family, progress, respect for authority, delayed gratification, more. Two quick things.

First of all, I assume that the traits of "Whiteness" listed by the Smithsonian are considered a bad thing as it's 2024. Apparently, hard work and work before play falls under White Culture? I suspect that a lot of groups would claim those two items for their own. The same can be said considering time as important and delaying gratification.

I would be embarrassed if I participated in creating or displaying "Aspects And Assumptions Of Whiteness & White Culture In The United States."

Secondly, these traits seem universally positive or at least neutral. I believe that they cross most demographics. Some would say that the traits and characteristics shown in the infographic are a recipe for success. Others might say that none of the traits are exactly onerous and could be (and actually are) used to a large degree by all.  It's almost like those at the Smithsonian inadvertently praised "Whiteness."
