Nolan Wells' family takes legal step to preserve evidence

"Hudson and his mother have said Wells chose to remain on the island after the group's boat began experiencing mechanical problems. Audio previously obtained by NBC News through a public records request captured someone aboard the boat requesting emergency towing assistance after reporting the vessel's bilge pump had failed."

Why in the hell would it not make sense for a young man to stay behind if the boat was taking on water and it was in question whether or not it would sink? Apparently, catching a ride to and from the island was not very difficult so why ride back early on a boat that was iffy in regards to seaworthiness?
