So, the parents know everything about everything but all that they know about the "Disturbance" is that there was "Some kind of friction?"

Didn't the cops have to be called? That's noteworthy in my world.
As for not immediately knowing where the keys were, is it unusual not knowing where a guest has left all of his possessions? I can't imagine knowing exactly where all of my in laws property is when they stay over. Hell, my wife loses her keys and phone on a monthly (if not weekly) basis.
But, let's pretend that there was some alternative motive for not (finding) giving up the keys immediately upon demand (by strangers?). Did someone later Nancy Drew some clues/proof from the truck that added to the story or is it more likely that they simply didn't know where the keys were in the moment?
