Why America’s Infrastructure Is Failing | John Kiriakou

I don't claim to be a scholar but his view seems a bit simplistic.

Let's look at a few points.

1) The military is a huge jobs and training program. Dems love funding "Infrastructure and training" when writing spending Bills. The military trains everyone from truck drivers to airplane mechanics. Even basic infantryman have the discipline instilled in them to aid them later in life. Our servicemen and women have VA benefits from loans, to college money, to healthcare at the VA (ka-ching, ka-ching).

2) Our military spending has kept WWIII from occurring. Only an idiot would believe that we wouldn't have been drawn into a Russian invasion of Europe post WWII.

3) Our military keeps the shipping lanes open. We are reliant upon trade and oil flowing across the seas unimpeded.

4) Having a strong American military and our nuclear umbrella keep a lot of smart wealthy nations from building nukes. There's no reason that South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Germany, etc. could not build their own nuclear weapons if they were not partnered and protected by our weapons. Hell, freaking Pakistan managed to built nukes in between molesting goats.

5) Our strong military and those relying on us around the globe largely trade oil in petrodollars (US dollars). This props up our currency and faith in the USA is the only thing keeping the dollar as strong as it is.

6) Faith in the USA and the American military help keep other nations buying US debt. Without foreigners buying our debt the US economic system would collapse.

7) A strong USA (based upon a strong military and economy) means that we can influence events and culture around the globe. While I don't think that we are perfect by any means, American women aren't raped or beaten in the streets for not wearing a tent outdoors.

8) Military spending is like an onion. There's layers to what we get from this money.
