What's in Florida's new Black history standards? Read the approved curriculum here
Bear in mind that there are 70 pages of the 216 page curriculum that deal with Black history.
Florida and DeSantis dig in as criticism of Black history curriculum mounts
"Much of the scrutiny surrounds a particular standard requiring middle school students to learn “how slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”
Note that the statement does not say that slaves benefitted from slavery. Those that keep harping on that lie are generally "Benefitting" from the lie.
Would you like an example of slaves benefitting from have a skill? How about a tailor or dressmaker working indoors instead of out in a field during the middle of July? What about a cook/chef being better fed, better housed and better treated? Need I detail what one of George Washington's brewers or distillers got?
The list can go on and on. The fact is that slaves were not going to live the life of Elon Musk or an Obama. They could, however, have somewhat better circumstances if they were more skilled and thus more valuable.
This is common sense. There's a saying, "It's hard to convince someone of the truth when their paycheck depends upon a lie."
